If you are in the market for a new roof it is recommended to review your old wind mitigation report or have a new one done prior to re-roofing. Why? Because if your roof to wall attachments do not qualify for as clips or single wraps with the insurance company, this is a great time to make this improvement. The bottom layer of plywood can be removed during the re-roofing process to expose those attachments for retrofitting. The strengthening of roof to wall attachments can significantly reduce the potential for structural roof damage during a wind event.

Upgrading the roof to wall connection (hurricane straps/clips) is much harder from inside the attic but can also be done by removing the soffits.
